  • FairPrice Online (NTUC)

A complete weekly shop, house brands and fresh produce in one order. Popular delivery slots disappear at weekends — book early.

    Get Produce Boxes

  • RedMart (Lazada)

Wide range plus vouchers, with next-day slots. Prices shift with promo cycles; the same basket can cost more next week.

  • Cold Storage

Premium produce, imported cuts and deli. Consistently the most expensive basket.

    Get Produce Boxes

  • Sheng Siong online

Best value wet-market style produce. Smaller catalogue and fewer delivery windows.

  • GrabMart

Ordering from the specific supermarket you trust. Watch for substitutions when a store runs out.

  • pandamart / foodpanda shops

Forgotten ingredients, delivered in 20 minutes. Marked-up prices and a thin fresh range.

Singapore rewards planning. Both FairPrice and RedMart price fresh produce close to shelf price and pack it well; the on-demand apps are for emergencies, not the weekly shop. Availability, fees and minimum orders change often — confirm in the app before your shop.

Did we get this right?

One tap. It is how we catch the identifications that are wrong.

Singapore is the easiest place in the region to buy groceries online and one of the easiest places to overpay for them. The delivery infrastructure is excellent, which means the on-demand apps can get you a capsicum in twenty minutes — at a markup that is easy to stop noticing.

The question worth asking is not "which app is fastest" but "which one treats produce well and charges a fair price for it". On both counts, the supermarket's own platform usually wins.

Why the supermarket platforms handle produce better

Chilled fulfilment. FairPrice, RedMart and Cold Storage pick into temperature-controlled totes and deliver in refrigerated vans. An on-demand rider with a thermal bag is fine for a bottle of milk on a short trip, but leafy greens and berries degrade quickly in Singapore's humidity.

The second reason is picking accuracy. A supermarket picker works the same aisles every day and knows which punnet is worth sending. That matters most for the items where the difference between good and bad is invisible from the outside — mangoes, avocados, peaches.

What to buy where

  • Leafy greens, herbs, berries — supermarket platform, delivered in a chilled tote.
  • Wet-market produce (fish, live shellfish, cut meat) — Sheng Siong or your regular wet market, not an app.
  • Imported premium items — Cold Storage, accepting the price.
  • Heavy staples (rice, oil, drinks) — any platform, since weight is what the delivery fee is really paying for.
  • The forgotten lime — pandamart, and do not think about the price.

The substitutions and freshness reality

Substitutions are the most common complaint in every market, and Singapore's apps handle them better than most — but you still get a larger pack when the size you wanted is out. Set the "no replacement" option on anything where a substitute is useless.

On freshness, the picture is better than the complaints suggest. In our own scanner data across 336  produce photos, the average freshness score is 83 out of 100. The items that fail are almost always the ones with the shortest life — berries, cut herbs, soft stone  fruit — so buy those in person if you can.

A sensible weekly split

Book one big shop on FairPrice or RedMart for the week, scheduled for a weekday evening when slots are available. Buy your fish and leafy greens at the market on the way home. Keep one on-demand app for emergencies. That combination costs the least and produces the fewest disappointing meals.
